TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama men's cross country team will welcome nearly 20 collegiate teams to Tuscaloosa for its annual Crimson Classic meet on Sept. 18 at the Harry Pritchett Running Course.
The men's team, ranked fifth in the nation, will hit the trail first at 8:45 a.m. for the men's 8-kilometer race. The men's field features 18 teams including four teams that are currently ranked in their respective regions.
"We're excited to host and it's great to have that home field advantage," UA head men's coach Joe Walker said. "The guys really enjoy friends and family being able to watch them compete."
After opening the season last weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn., with a lineup comprised primarily of reserve runners, Walker expects to race the majority of his squad on Saturday.
"This is a race where we bring the entire group back into the fold," Walker said. "We'll have most of our top-line guys running and typically this is the meet where we really get our season started."
The Tide will also host high school and middle school races following the completion of the collegiate races. The high school girls' 5-kilometer race will begin at 9:45 a.m. followed by the boys' 5-kilometer at 10:15 a.m. The middle school 2-mile race will begin at 10:45 a.m. Complete results will be posted here.
