TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama women's golf team released its 2010-11 schedule on Tuesday that includes several familiar stops from past seasons as well as some new destinations.
The Crimson Tide, fresh of their best NCAA Championship finish, opens the fall slate at the NCAA Fall Preview on Sept. 13-15. The NCAA Fall Preview will be played on the site of the 2011 NCAA Championships at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, hosted by Texas A&M.
"This year's schedule is a tribute to the success we have had over the past several years," head coach Mic Potter said. "The better you play on the course, the more opportunities you have to play in the top tournaments against the best competition. This schedule will challenge us and, hopefully, put us in position to succeed at the end of the year."
The second stop on the fall schedule is an annual event for Alabama, the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship at the Vanderblit Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., on Sept. 24-26. UA is also slated for a return trip to the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Oct. 8-10 at the Finley Golf Course.
Alabama concludes its fall tournament schedule with a visit to Stanford, Calif., and the Stanford Golf Course for the Pac-10/SEC Challenge. The Crimson Tide made their first trip to Stanford last season to qualify for the NCAA Championships by finishing tied for third at the NCAA West Regional.
The Tide opens its spring slate at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic for the fourth time in five seasons. Alabama has won the team title in its last two trips to Puerto Rico in 2008 and 2010. The tournament is scheduled for Feb. 13-15 and will be held for the first time at the Rio Mar Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
Alabama will also make two consecutive stops in the state of Louisiana at the Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship and the LSU Golf Classic. The Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate will take place on Feb. 27-March 1 at the English Turn Golf Club in New Orleans, La. UA then visits Baton Rouge, La., on March 11-13 for the LSU Golf Classic at the University Club.
The Crimson Tide will make its annual appearance at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., on April 1-3. UA finished second at the Liz Murphey during both the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
After winning the first SEC Championship in school history in 2010 on home soil at the NorthRiver Yacht Club, Alabama will travel to Auburn's AU Club at Yarbrough Farms to defend its title in 2011. The SEC Championships are slated for April 15-17.
NCAA regional play begins on May 5 followed by the NCAA Championships at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas, starting on May 17. Alabama has reached the NCAA Championships in each of head coach Mic Potter's five seasons.
Alabama returns its top three golfers from last year's team that finished third at the NCAA Championships and third in the final NGCA Coaches' Poll. Returning starters Camilla Lennarth, Jennifer Kirby and Brooke Pancake all finished in the top 15 individuals at the 2010 NCAA Championships and posted season-scoring averages that ranked among the top five in school history.
