TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - In the first extra-innings contest of the 2010 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional, Lipscomb eliminated UAB 7-6 in nine innings. Lipscomb seemingly had the game put away, up 5-1 going into the top of the seventh inning, but UAB had other ideas, rolling up five runs and jumping ahead 6-5. Lipscomb answered in the bottom of the seventh, tying it at 6-6, forcing extra stanzas.
The two teams remained tied through the bottom of the ninth inning when Lispcomb sophomore Caroline Mason singled down the third base line to drive in sophomore Mollie Mitchell.
Sophomore Whitney Kiihl earned the win, improving her record to 33-4 on the season. Sophomore Alisha Smith took the loss, dropping to 14-14 on the year. Lipscomb will face Alabama Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the regional championship game. Should a game seven be necessary, it will begin Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
