Gymnastics Leads the League in SEC Academic Honor

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama Gymnastics team, the top Southeastern Conference finisher at last week's NCAA Championships, also led the league in the classroom with a conference-best 11 upperclassmen earning berths on the SEC Academic Honor Roll Commissioner Mike Slive announced Tuesday.
"It is a constant point of pride for our program that our ladies continue to lead the Southeastern Conference in this honor," UA head coach Sarah Patterson said. "Academics are our top priority and the fact that 11 of our upperclassmen earned a place on SEC Academic Honor Roll is a strong statement on the focus and hard work that Alabama gymnasts put into their academic careers."
The Crimson Tide, which won an NCAA-best 25th regional title and finished third at the NCAA Championships, will add to its Academic Honor Roll total in the summer when the SEC announces its freshman honor roll.
To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing.
All five of the Tide's senior's made the list, led by three-time All-American Kassi Price who carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average with a double major in marketing and advertising. Eight-time All-American and NCAA Champion Morgan Dennis, four-time All-American Ricki Lebegern, All-American Casey Overton and Alyssa Chapman also earned the honor from the senior class.
Juniors Megan Mashburn and two-time All-American Kayla Hoffman both earned the honor for the third time. From the sophomore class, five-time All-American Ashley Priess, four-time All-American Geralen Stack-Eaton, All-American Rachel Terry and Jocelyn Fowler all made the list.
Beyond leading the league this season, Alabama also leads the league all-time with 209 honors since the award's inception in 1984.
