BATON ROUGE, La. - The women's tennis team fell to LSU Friday at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium by a score of 5-2. The loss puts the Crimson Tide at 8-9 on the season and 1-6 against Southeastern Conference opponents, while the Tigers up their standing to 7-12 overall and 2-5 versus league foes.
Alabama made it four doubles points in a row when it took the early edge against LSU with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. First to wrap up play was the matchup at No. 1 where the 20th-ranked duo of sophomore Courtney McLane and freshman Alexa Guarachi took early control to win 8-3 over LSU sophomore Whitney Wolf and freshman Keri Frankenberger. LSU then picked up a win on court two as senior Hannah Robinson and freshman Kaitlin Burns came out on top 8-4 over Tide senior Alice Tunaru and freshman Antonia Foehse. The doubles point would be decided at No. 3 in a match that lasted over an hour. The Alabama tandem of senior Paulina Bigos and junior Meritt Emery pulled ahead in the beginning and led 7-4, but the Tigers' team of senior Nicole Kantor and junior Kylie Adamek came within two at 7-5. The Tide would take control in the final game winning by an 8-5 decision for the early lead.
LSU evened the dual match score at 1-1 with a win on court four by retirement. Frankenberger led Foehse 6-4, 3-1 before the Alabama freshman pulled out of the match. The Tigers went ahead 2-1 after earning a straight-sets win on court five as freshman Ebie Wilson took down Bigos 6-3, 6-3. McLane gave the Tide its only singles point of the match with a win at No. 2. The Alabama netter dominated with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Burns.
LSU went on to earn wins on court three and six to clinch the match, both of which were decided in straight sets. Kantor would put the Tigers up 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Emery in the three slot before Robinson delivered the fourth point for LSU at No. 6 with a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Tunaru.
The contest at No. 1 would continue with No. 20 Guarachi and Wolf locked at one set apiece. Wolf came out blazing in the third to take an early 3-0 lead and never looked back eventually taking the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
