BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Alabama junior pitcher Kelsi Dunne was named the Southeastern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week the conference office announced Monday. Dunne led the Crimson Tide to a 4-0 record and earned the win in all four games.
Dunne returned to her All-American form this week as the Port Orange, Fla., native went a perfect 4-0 in the circle. Dunne earned three wins in starts and came in, in relief to earn her other victory. On the week the junior posted a 1.12 ERA and struck out 36 in 18 2/3 innings while only allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Opponents hit a measly .113 against the right-hander on the week.
Dunne opened the slate with a 14-punchout performance against LSU and then came back in the nightcap to strike out four more in 1 2/3 innings. She continued to baffle hitters with 10 strikeouts in five innings in the weekend series opener against Northwestern and then punched out eight more in five innings on Sunday.
She allowed three or fewer hits in all four of her appearances, including a one-hitter in the opener against LSU. Dunne has earned the win in five straight games for Alabama and notched the victory in six of the last seven ball games for the Tide. Alabama is riding a seven-game winning streak and Dunne has earned the win in six of those victories.
Alabama will put its seven-game winning streak on the line as it heads to Itta Bena, Miss., to face Mississippi Valley State. The two teams will meet on Tuesday, April 13 with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
