KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Alabama rowing team will cross another milestone Saturday when they compete in a double-dual meet with Tennessee and Louisville on Lake Loudon in Knoxville, Tenn.
"This is the first time we've competed in a double-dual, though it's pretty common at the NCAA Division I level," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "It's another format that we're growing into."
Alabama is in its fourth season as an NCAA Division I program. The meet will be the Tide's third in the spring season and second consecutive road contest.
"We were able to get on the water consistently during spring break, though we missed a day this week due to the weather," Davis said. "We'd like to have that extra day, but overall training is going pretty well."
The meet gets underway at 9 a.m. ET and the Tide will race six times on Saturday, including the First Varsity 8+, Second Varsity 8+, First Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 4+ and First Novice 8+ and Second Novice 8+.
"Both Tennessee and Louisville are established programs and we'd like to gain some ground on them," Davis said. "We need to put our 'A' race on the water every time out to have the kind of success I'd like us to have, but we're certainly reaching a point where we're capable of that."
This will be Alabama's second dual meet with Tennessee. Last year, in the Tide's first dual meet against the Lady Vols, Alabama won the First Novice 8+ and the Second Varsity 4+ races. Saturday will mark the Tide's first races against Louisville.
