TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Women's basketball signee Kaneisha Horn was named Miss Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association which was presented by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday. She becomes the 13th Miss Basketball player to sign with the Crimson Tide, ninth from the state of Alabama and first since Navonda Moore in 2003.
Horn, a native of Birmingham, Ala., had a solid senior campaign for Ramsay High School after missing nearly all of the 2009 season with a knee injury. The 6-1 forward averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists per game en route to leading her team to the Alabama High School Athletic Association 4A Girls State Basketball Regional Finals. The Rams finished the 2009-10 season with a 22-7 record.
Horn's Miss Alabama Basketball crown will be added to an already extensive list of accolades as she was named to the 2010 McDonald's High School All-America Team, the 2010 Gatorade Player of the Year for Alabama, a second-team Parade All-American, and a Class 4A first-team selection by the ASWA. She is also one of the finalists for the Naismith Award, presented annually by the Atlanta Tipoff Club to the nation's best basketball player.
