TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team checked in ranked No.5 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll and No. 8 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll. The Crimson Tide finished the week 3-1 after hosting Liberty and taking two-of-three from No. 4 Georgia in the Southeastern Conference opening series for both teams.
The University of Washington (22-1) remains at No. 1 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 poll for the fifth consecutive week after taking home the title of the Husky Softball Classic this weekend with five wins.
No. 4 Michigan moved up one spot with four victories, two of which were against a then-No. 20 Louisville. The Crimson Tide of Alabama landed at No. 5 this week from No. 7 with two strong wins over SEC opponent Georgia. The Bulldogs are now tied at No. 6 with the UCLA Bruins who defeated a then-No.18 North Carolina 1-0.
The top ten teams remained the same as the Pac-10 Conference leads the way with seven teams in the Top 25. The Big 12 is close behind with six teams and the SEC with five teams.
Another perfect week kept Washington atop of the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll as the unanimous No. 1 team in the country for the third consecutive week. The Huskies have been the top choice in all six polls this year, including the preseason poll, and have received all 30 first-place votes in five of those six polls.
Arizona and Missouri stayed put at second and third, respectively, this week, while Michigan moved up one spot from fifth to fourth. UCLA rounded out the top five by jumping from seventh to fifth, forcing Florida down to sixth.
Alabama will then host its first home SEC series of the season when it welcomes South Carolina to the Softball Complex. The first of the three games set is for Saturday, March 20 with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. The Sunday contest that is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. will be aired live on Fox Sports South.
