TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama women's cross country team continues the championship portion of their schedule at Saturday's NCAA South Region Championships in Hoover, Ala.
Alabama's women will hit the course at 9:45 a.m. on a 6-kilometer course at Hoover's Veterans Park.
The Tide is currently ranked 10th in the South Region and head coach Randy Hasenbank would like to see his squad make up some ground and post a top-five result on Saturday.
"Our goal is definitely to go in there and finish in the top five," Hasenbank said. "We're fully capable of that but we just haven't been able to put it all together from No. 1 to No. 5 this season."
In order to have that solid result, Hasenbank's mission for the team is clear.
"We've got to be aggressive early and move to the front of the field," Hasenbank said. "We've done a better job of that in our last few races, but still need to focus on being aggressive at the start."
The squad will be looking to build off solid individual performances at the SEC meet from veteran runners like Elsbeth Denton, Leigh Gilmore and Andrea Torkse as all three had their best career finishes in the SEC Championships.
The top two teams in the women's field will automatically advance to the NCAA Championships while the top four individuals not on an advancing team will also move on.
