TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team (9-12, 1-7 SEC) returns home Sunday, Jan. 31 when it hosts No. 18/19 LSU (14-5, 3-4 SEC) in Coleman Coliseum. Tipoff is slated for 2:00 p.m. (CST).
"LSU is a team that is going to make you make basketball plays," said head coach Wendell Hudson. "We've got to be ready to execute tomorrow, especially in half-court settings."
The Crimson Tide dropped a close 70-61 decision last time out to No. 24 Vanderbilt in Nashville. Alabama used a late 19-6 run in the second half to cut an 18-point Commodore lead to five, but ran out of time. Junior Tierney Jenkins led the game in scoring with 21 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season and fourth in a row. Sophomore Ericka Russell also notched double-figure points for the game with 15, while junior LaToya King led the Tide in assists with five.
LSU enters Sunday's contest on a two-game losing skid having dropped games to Tennessee and Kentucky. The Tigers are led by senior national player of the year candidate Allison Hightower, who averages 16.5 points and 2.4 steals in a team-high 30.6 minutes per game. Hightower chipped in 23 points on 10-of-30 shooting against the Wildcats on Thursday. Sophomore LaSondra Barrett also adds double-figure points on a regular basis for LSU averaging 12.9 points per game in addition to a team-high 6.5 rebounds per outing.
Sunday's meeting will be the 46th in the series that dates back to the 1977 season. The Tigers currently hold a 29-16 advantage including the last 10 consecutive games. Alabama's last win against LSU came on Feb. 24, 2002, by a score of 82-73 in Tuscaloosa.
Admission for the game is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased online here or by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 1.877.TIDETIX (843.3849).
