Crimson Tide Finishes Sixth at NGCA Match Play Championships

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The University of Alabama women's golf team dropped its final match of the NGCA Match Play Championships to Georgia, 4-1, Tuesday on the LPGA International Legends Course to finish in sixth place.
Sophomore Brooke Pancake earned the Crimson Tide's only victory, defeating Emilie Burger 4 & 2. Pancake sank consecutive birdies on the last two holes to close out the match.
Pancake tied with junior Camilla Lennarth for the best record on the team over the course of three matches with a 2-1 mark. Lennarth, playing in the No. 1 spot, won her first two matches against Auburn and South Carolina before falling to Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora 4 & 2 on Tuesday.
Lennarth also earned a top 10 finish in the 36-hole stroke play qualifier, finishing tied for eighth with a 1-over-par 145.
Freshman Jennifer Kirby went 1-1-1 in match play after being edged by Georgia's Milena Savich 2 & 1 in Tuesday's action. Senior Rhea Nair saw each of her three matches come down to the final hole, finishing 0-2-1 for the tournament in three closely contested rounds.
LSU knocked off Auburn, 3-1-1, to win the 2009 NGCA Match Play Championships.
Alabama returns to action at the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship in Franklin, Tenn. Sept. 25-27.
