TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Each week, RollTide.com will feature a member of the women's cross country team in which the athlete will answer a few questions asked by RollTide.com. This week, returning sophomore Kelsey Johnson, a native of Iowa Park, Texas, is featured.
RollTide.com - You accomplished so much as a true freshman in 2008, how do you stay motivated to accomplish those things again or more?
Johnson - I'm a perfectionist so I'm never satisfied. I accomplished so much last year but I never won a championship race and I never made it to nationals. No matter how much I accomplish there will still be meets to be won and records to be broken.
RollTide.com - If you were Coach Hasenbank, you would...
Johnson - ...stop at Krispy Kreme when the `HOT NOW' sign is lit up. It's depressing when you drive by it every morning and never get the chance to stop.
RollTide.com - Who is the person you would most like to meet?
Johnson - John Krasinski. He's funny and cute.
RollTide.com - What goes through your mind in the last few minutes before a race?
Johnson - I got tripped a lot in high school so normally it's "Don't fall".
RollTide.com - What is your best non-athletic talent?
Johnson - Eating. Don't let my small frame fool you. Ask Coach Hasenbank about my world record in Chicago.
RollTide.com - What is your dream job?
Johnson - My dream job would be to coach runners and be a dietician for them and other athletes. Imagine if I married a guy that majored in kinesiology AND wanted to coach runners. People could call us the dream team. We could make t-shirts.
RollTide.com - When did you know you wanted run at the Division I level?
Johnson - I was obsessed with Southern Methodist University growing up. I went to a track camp at SMU the summer before my sophomore year and decided that I would run for them one day. Obviously that didn't happen but the hard work I put in to obtain that goal brought me to Alabama.
