
Softball Honored at Halftime of Alabama Football Game

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama softball team was recognized at halftime of the Alabama football home opener against Florida International Saturday night. The 2009 team was honored for making another appearance at the Women's College World Series.
Alabama's 2009 softball season equaled the most productive in the 13-year history of the program. The Crimson Tide made its deepest run into the Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City with a 2-2 record and an appearance in the semifinals. Alabama finished with a 54-11 record and went 21-6 in the Southeastern Conference to capture the SEC Western Division title. UA swept through the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional and Super Regional behind back-to-back no-hitters by Kelsi Dunne. Alabama earned its 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid in 2009. In just its 13th year of existence, the Crimson Tide program has garnered 11 appearances in NCAA Regional play.
The Alabama softball team had three players earn 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Crimson Tide was represented by Charlotte Morgan, Kelsi Dunne and Brittany Rogers. Rogers becomes a four-time All-American, while Morgan, and Dunne were recognized for the second consecutive year. In addition to the three NFCA All-Americans, catcher Ashley Holcombe was named an ESPN.com All-American. A school-record seven Alabama players earned All-SEC recognition for their play in 2009, including Morgan being named the SEC Player of the Year and Amanda Locke garnering Freshman of the Year accolades.
Not only did the Tide perform on the field but also in the classroom. The Alabama softball team had 15 of its 18 players on the 2009 roster capture academic accolades from the Southeastern Conference. The Crimson Tide garnered 10 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll honorees along with five members of the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll. In addition Rogers was a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. The University of Alabama softball coaching staff was named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
