Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Under the direction of cross country coach Joe Walker, the men's cross country team concluded their fourth week of practice including an off week from competition.
With the team not having to compete last weekend, the men were able to work in some tougher runs into their training regimen.
"Last week we were able to get in a little bit of quality work in a still very hot and humid environment," Walker said. "We had a nice fartlek session on Tuesday on the grass and ran a 7-mile hilly tempo run in Talladega National Forest on Friday."
This week, the Crimson Tide will get ready for the only true home meet of the season. Alabama will still focus on the big picture however, and train with the SEC, Region and NCAA Championships in mind.
"We still approach this period as a somewhat high mileage period and are trying to be fit and ready to truly race over 10k in November," Walker said.
Alabama hosts the 21st Annual Crimson Classic on Friday, Sept. 18 at the Harry Pritchett Running Park. The men will toe the line for the 8,000 meter race at 5:30 p.m.
