
Bud Cauley Knocked Out of U.S. Amateur

TULSA, Okla. - University of Alabama golfer Bud Cauley was eliminated from the 109th U.S. Amateur on Thursday at Southern Hills Country Club in the round of 32.
Cauley was downed by Sweden's David Lingmerth in match play action 2 & 1 with a birdie on the 17th hole. Lingmerth advances on to face the No. 12 seed Cameron Tringale in the final 16.
Lingmerth got out to an early lead with a birdie on the first hole that put Cauley 1-down, and Lingmerth never relinquished the lead. Cauley was able to square the match on No. 4, but then dropped the next three holes to go 3-down. He won the eighth and ninth holes to get to 1-down but he was never able to square the match again.
Cauley will return to preparations for the Walker Cup, which will be held at the Merion Golf Club on Sept. 12-13.
