TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Under the direction of fourth year head cross country coach Randy Hasenbank, the Alabama women's cross country team concluded its first week of practice.
During the first few weeks of practice, the ladies will stick with mostly aerobic work while the coaches assess everybody's fitness before getting more specific as they get closer to the first meet of the season.
"Well everybody reported last week so we've been training for just over a week now collectively as a team," Hasenbank said. "I'm really just checking everybody's fitness and trying to find out where they're at before we do any specific prep work. We'll get a little more specific in our training after the first meet. At this point, everyone's healthy, and generally speaking, everybody is in better shape this year so hopefully we can stay healthy and have a good season."
With four new freshmen joining the ranks this season, the girls and coaches got together for a team dinner at Chuck's Fish. The newcomers on this year's squad are Elsbeth Denton, Elise Goubet, Lindsey McKee and Katlyn Will.
"We had a nice team dinner last weekend and I know the gals have gotten together on their own and done several things," Hasenbank said. "Of course, the veterans are looking out for the freshmen, welcoming them and helping them learn the ropes but we're well on our way to the start of the season."
The Crimson Tide will embark on their 2009 season at the Belmont Opener on Sept. 4 in Nashville, Tenn.
