TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Under the direction of ninth year cross country coach Joe Walker, the Alabama men's cross country team began practice on Saturday, August 15th. Walker and the Crimson Tide enter this season as the defending SEC and South Region Champions.
"Anytime you are starting off a year, it is an exciting time," said Walker. "Everybody looks forward to it because you come off a break and everyone is ready to start back as a group. The biggest thing we deal with is the environment as far as the climate, the heat and humidity. We have tried to allow our guys to adjust back to that environment over the last month or two."
The squad has been focusing on their fitness at this point and not so much on intensity in their workouts.
The Tide opens up its 2009 season on Saturday, September 5th at the Memphis Twilight Invitational in Memphis, Tenn.
