
Brooke Pancake Reaches Semifinals of Southern Amateur

ALBANY, Ga. - Alabama freshman golfer Brooke Pancake reached the semifinals of the 94th Women's Southern Golf Association Amateur at the Stonebridge Golf and Country Club this week.
Five-time WSGA finalist and two-time winner Virginia Derby Grimes managed to knock off the Alabama rookie 4 & 3 in the semifinals of the championship flight. Grimes also claimed WSGA Championships in 1987 and 1996, but was defeated by Alexis Thompson 4 &3 in the championships match on Friday.
Pancake defeated Arkansas' Kristin Ingram in the quarterfinals, 2-up, after ousting Florida Mid-Am champion Amelia Lewis 4 & 3 in the round of 16. Pancake, a Chattanooga, Tenn. native, opened championship flight play win a 4 & 3 win over Haley Millsap in the round of 32.
Pancake qualified for the championship flight on Monday with a 3-under-par 69, which was good enough for the No. 2 seed entering match play.
Pancake was a second-team All-SEC selection after posting a 74.06 stroke average in her first season at the Capstone. She was also a NGCA All-East Region choice and named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
