The HARLECH, North Wales - University of Alabama sophomore golfer Camilla Lennarth completed her run at the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship with a loss in the second round of match play on the 6,202-yard, par-73 Royal St. David's Golf Club.
Lennarth, representing her home country of Sweden, entered match play as the third seed in the 64-player field after finishing tied for third in the 36-hole stroke play qualifier. She shot under par in both qualifying rounds, turning in scores of 72 and 71 respectively for a final score of 143 (-3), to lock down a spot in the top five.
The Stockholm, Sweden native fired 10 birdies over the two day event, including four straight birdies on holes 12-15 in round one. She birdied three of those four holes again in the second round of qualifying. Carlota Ciganda and Azahara Munoz, teammates at Arizona State and representatives of Spain, shared the top spot in qualifying at 8-under-par 138.
The field began with 144 players hailing from 17 different countries, including 11 players who finished the season ranked in the top 40 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. Lennarth, who led the Crimson Tide with a 73.30 stroke average, wrapped up the season ranked 31st nationally.
Lennarth defeated her first round opponent of the match play session, Charlotte Wild of England, 2 & 1 to advance to the round of 32. Her run ended there when she was defeated by Kelly Tidy, also from England, 5&4.
