
Bud Cauley Selected as SEC Freshman of the Year

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama true freshman golfer Bud Cauley was named the SEC Freshman of the Year on Monday the league office announced. He was also a unanimous first-team All-SEC selection and named to the SEC All-Freshman team along with teammate Hunter Hamrick.
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Cauley is the first Crimson Tide men's golfer to garner SEC Freshman of the Year honors and the first freshman to earn first-team All-SEC accolades. He is the fourth UA player to earn first-team All-SEC recognition in the last three years.
Cauley is ranked sixth in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and leads the Crimson Tide team with a 71.50 stroke average. He has posted five top 10 finishes in eight tournaments this season, and has never finished outside of the top 20 in his Alabama career. Cauley has also been selected to play on the United States Palmer Cup team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Cauley captured his first tournament win at the prestigious United States Collegiate Championship at The Golf Club of Georgia Lakeside Course. He followed that up with a fifth-place finish at the SEC Championships. Nine of his last 10 rounds have been 73 or lower, including six under par.
Hamrick joined Cauley on the SEC All-Freshman team. Hamrick is second on the team with a 73.50 stroke average and ranks 68th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index. His top finish was a tie for second place at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational.
The league also announced the selection of the 2009 SEC Men's Golf Community Service Team with Phillip Weaver representing the Crimson Tide. Weaver has been involved with the University Place Elementary School as a tutor and mentor. He also participates in the Halloween Extravaganza hosted by the athletic department each year and has been active in Project Angel Tree.
Alabama will learn its NCAA Regional destination on Monday, May 4, and begin play on Friday, May 14.
