TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team made another addition Friday when it announced the signing of Mobile's Jocelyn Shaw. Shaw, most notably, helped lead the LeFlore Lady Rattlers to the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A state championship en route to being named Tournament MVP.
"We are excited about signing Jocelyn," said head coach Wendell Hudson. "She has a great competitive nature and is a player we have been watching all year. We are looking forward to her coming in because we think she is going to be a solid contributor on the floor."
Shaw, a 6-foot forward, averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds in her senior season. In the championship game win over Brewer, she rattled in 29 of LeFlore's 68 points and grabbed nine boards. For her performance in the tournament, she received recognition as the ESPN RISE National Girls Basketball Player of the Week for the southeast region. Shaw also picked up Class 5A Second-Team All-State honors from the Alabama Sports Writers Association along with a spot on the Mobile Press-Register's Sweet 16 First Team.
Shaw becomes the fourth member of this year's signing class for the Crimson Tide as she joins Alabama's three early signees in 6-foot-2 center/forward Karneshia Garrett of Hoover, 5-foot-11 guard Celiscia Farmer of Montgomery and 6-foot forward Meghan Perkins of Montgomery.
Both Shaw and Perkins represented Alabama in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game on March 20 in Pelham, Ala. Shaw tallied four point, five rebounds and a pair of blocks in 18 minutes of action, while Perkins collected the game's only double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds in addition to four blocks and three steals in 22 minutes.
