Tuscaloosa, Ala. - -
The No. 8 University of Alabama women's golf team begins post-season play with a trip to the par-71, 6,165 yard Cobblestone Park Golf Course in Blythewood, S.C., site of this year's Southeastern Conference Championships April 17-19.
The Crimson Tide will face considerable competition as six of the 12 teams competing are ranked in the top 20 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Ratings, and 11 are ranked in the top 50. Alabama is the second-highest ranked squad behind rival Auburn at No. 6. Other top 20 teams include No. 9 LSU, No. 15 Georgia, No. 18 Arkansas and No. 19 Vanderbilt.
Senior Kathleen Ekey enters the SEC Championships with three straight top 10 finishes including medalist honors at the Liz Murphey Collegiate. She leads the team in scoring average at 73.70 and will compete in the first slot for the Tide.
Sophomore Camilla Lennarth will serve as the squad's No. 2. The Stockholm, Sweden native has seven top-15 finishes this season and has played in every tournament this year. Junior Helena Blomberg finished tied for seventh at SEC's in her freshman campaign and will look to add another top 10 finish to her resume in the No. 3 slot.
Freshman Brooke Pancake and junior Rhea Nair round out the Tide lineup. Pancake has three top-10 finishes in her first season at UA and is third on the team in scoring average at 74.33, while this will be Nair's fifth tournament of the year after sitting out the fall with a wrist injury. Nair took top individual honors at the First Market Bank Invitational less than a month ago.
Alabama finished seventh at the SEC Championships last season. Ekey and Lennarth posted the best individual performances for UA as both shot 227 (+11) for the tournament to end up in a tie for 15th. Florida won the team title last year.
The tournament will tee off Friday, April 17 at 7:30 a.m. CT with the Tide scheduled to open on the 10th hole at 8:20 a.m. Live stats for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
