TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Sophomore Tiffany Welcher captured SEC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for her performance against TCU on Feb. 28. This is her first weekly recognition of the season.
"I'm thrilled that Tiffany was recognized as the SEC Player of the Week," said head coach Jenny Mainz. "She had a significant win over TCU to put the Crimson Tide in a position to earn the upset. Tiffany has continued to elevate her game each week and has been playing quality tennis. She's been competing well."
Last week, Welcher picked up Alabama's second point of the match tying it with then-No. 21 TCU 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win over 85th-ranked Macall Harkins. With the victory, Welcher extended her singles win streak to three and helped the Tide to its best start in program history at 8-0.
"Tiffany just made it incredibly difficult for McCall to earn points," added Mainz. "I believe Tiffany's best tennis is in front of her, and she's on track for a promising season."
Alabama returns to the court Friday, March 6 when it opens SEC play against Arkansas at 3:00 p.m. (CST). All action takes place at the University of Alabama Tennis Stadium.
