TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama softball team present its sixth athlete for nine questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The sixth edition features freshman catcher Kendall Dawson.
Rolltide.com: What was it like to put on the Alabama uniform for the first time and play for the No. 1 team in the nation?
Dawson: It was really amazing to finally feel like I had reached one of my biggest goals in life. It was also awesome to be able become a part of such a successful program with fans as intense as the ones here.
Rolltide.com: Being a freshman, what is it like to be able to learn from the likes of all the All-Americans on the team?
Dawson: It's a blessing to have the leadership that I have been given, and to have the opportunity to learn from players that are considered the best in the nation.
Rolltide.com: Your primary position is behind the plate ... what is it like to learn from the best defensive catcher in the country in Ashley Holcombe?
Dawson: Ashley really makes me feel comfortable and I know that everything she has to say to me is in my best interest. She really pays attention to what I do, and helps me as much as possible. I have never had a teammate who genuinely cares about making her teammates better, rather than just herself. I don't think she knows how big of an impact she has on me, as well as the other freshman, but I know without her I would have never felt as comfortable as I do now.

Rolltide.com: The word is that you enjoy to fish ... describe the perfect fishing trip for you and what is the biggest fish you ever caught?
Dawson: Well fishing is one thing besides playing softball that I really enjoy. My perfect fishing trip would include my family, (including my aunts, uncles, and, cousins) on a trip to the keys fishing for Mahi. I would say that the biggest fish I ever caught was not actually a fish, but a shark, that my cousin and I caught outside of our hotel while on vacation.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a favorite professional baseball team and why?
Dawson: I've grown up close to Tampa so I've been a Rays fan for awhile and to see them do well this past year was really exciting.
Rolltide.com: If you could play another sport in college what would it be?
Dawson: Throughout my high school career I played volleyball and enjoyed the atmosphere. I think that if I had not gone to school for softball, volleyball would have been my next option.
Rolltide.com: What is your favorite pregame meal?
Dawson: I'm down for anything, I'm just usually really hungry.
Rolltide.com: When did you start playing softball?
Dawson: I started to play ball when I was four, but it was a baseball league. I didn't actually play softball until I was about six.
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to go to the University of Alabama?
Dawson: I came to Alabama because when I went on a visit my junior year I fell in love with the environment and I knew that this is where I wanted to spend four years of my life. Murphy, Aly, and, Vann also made me feel comfortable and I knew that they put together a great program here.
