Head Coach Wendell Hudson
Opening Statement:
"At the end of the game we did do some things. There was a stretch there where we talked to the team about trusting themselves and trusting each other. There was a stretch there where we had a nine point lead and trusted each other. At the end, with the free throws, you go 17-for-29 at the free throw line and shoot 34 percent you had to have done something good to be in the basketball game. I don't care who you're playing. Northwestern State did a good job of making us play their tempo and they did a good job of controlling. "
On the shooting performance:
"We're getting some shots. We're running things to get shots and get the ball in the area that you would like to be able to shoot the ball from. There is nothing you can do about it. You can't talk a lot about it, you can't preach about it because the worst thing that can happen to shooters is worrying about shooting the basketball. You've got to just jump up and shoot it and be relaxed and shoot the ball if you're going to be a good shooter. That's what has got to happen to this team. We laughed about it in the dressing room tonight, it's okay to have a little fun out there and relax and shoot the basketball. That's the reason they put these big expensive scoreboards up in there is to keep up with the score."
On the play of Dedrea Magee and her surrounding teammates today:
"She (Dedrea Magee) played a lot of minutes. We never know who is going to be leading scorer on this team. That has proven to be true. We played a group of people. I think Katie Hancock is coming around for us and has really in the last two or three games stepped up in her role in helping us out. Erika Russell is still nursing the leg injury she had and you can tell she is not as confident in the way she is playing. Overall, I think we are getting really good effort out of this team. Now we just have to play a little smarter."
Senior Dedrea Magee
On being the leading scorer:
"I actually didn't know I was the leading scorer. I just go out and try to lead the team and play hard and get everybody involved."
Junior Tierney Jenkins
On rebounding and if the defense won this game today:
"I definitely think (the defense won this game) because we were not scoring as much as we usually do. Dedrea (Magee) did a good job scoring, but besides that it wasn't really an offensive game for us. Getting defensive stops was very important for us."
On going back in the game with four fouls:
"The best thing to do is just not even to think about having four fouls because if you do you will foul out. I just had to go in and finish and so we could get this win."
On losing confidence when shots aren't falling:
"I'm not going to lose confidence, and I don't think anyone on our team is going to lose confidence in each other. In practice we make the shots so we know it can continue on to the game so just keep doing what we do in practice in the game then it is going to fall for us."
