TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball team will play its first home game in nearly two weeks when it hosts Northwestern State Sunday at Coleman Coliseum for a 2:00 p.m. (CST) tilt. The Crimson Tide enters the matinee matchup with a 4-4 record overall, while the Lady Demons come in at 4-3 on the season.
"We just keep rolling," said head coach Wendell Hudson. "We are excited to get back out there, and we've just got to keep playing. That's what this stretch is all about. As a team, we are still getting through those growing pains. It will be good to be back at home."
Alabama will be making a quick turnaround as it comes off a 72-67 loss Friday in Montgomery to Alabama State. The Tide shot over 42 percent for the game but couldn't overcome the Hornet's 48 trips to the free-throw line as 32 of Alabama State's 72 came from the stripe. Junior Tierney Jenkins had a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Junior LaToya King added in 14 points of her own in addition to a game-best six assists.
Jenkins paces the Tide on the season with 13.3 points per game and 12.6 rebounds per contest, and King comes in as Alabama's leading ball distributor with 36 assists on the season, for an average of 4.5 per outing.
Northwestern State will wrap up a four-game road swing with Sunday's game at Alabama. The Lady Demons are winners of their past two games including the most recent victory over Centenary 65-49. Junior Jessica McPhail led Northwestern State with 15 points in the game, while junior Brooke Shepherd handed out seven assists in the contest.
Junior Brittiany Houston is the Lady Demons' leader in points and assists overall this season with averages of 12.4 and 3.7, respectively. Close behind Houston in points is McPhail with 11.6 per game and Shepherd with 10.0 per outing.
