Head Coach Wendell Hudson
Opening Statement:
"We're playing the way we practice. We talked about this earlier in the season. If we start making some shots then there are going to be some teams in trouble. We're playing really hard on the defensive end of the court and rebounding the ball. The biggest thing we were missing before was making shots. Now that we are making shots they feel comfortable and we're having some post players step up and play better than they've been playing. Courtney Strauthers played outstanding tonight. Carmen (McCoy), the way she's played the last two games and the dumb coach here didn't even get her in the game in the first half."
On taking a double-digit lead into the halftime break:
"That is a good night. We played a lot of people. We played some people a long time then took some people out. We had a lot of different combinations out there but we still played awful well. One of the things that really stands out is that we had 18 assists with a lot of different combinations."
On having 11 steals in the game:
"That is a lot of steals. We've been playing pretty good on the defensive end with our trapping and doing some things a little different. Right now, if we can continue to shoot the basketball, we're going to feel really good. Another thing that happened tonight was that we had two players on the bench, one who is a regular starter (Tierney Jenkins) and another who has been our backup point guard (LaToya King)."
On conference play starting on January 3 against Georgia:
"Georgia came in here last year and we feel like we should have probably beat them last year when they were a pretty good basketball team. Some of the losses that we've taken on the road, I think they're paying off right now."
Junior Varisia Raffington
On tonight's shooting efforts:
"Most of it has to do with the way we have been practicing. We have been going through things non-stop. We have been able to see things better since we have had a couple days of practice and also we are having that inside out game and that can free up a lot for us, and we can get our inside game going which is what happened tonight."
On perimeter defense:
"It just all comes with the way we have been practicing. We have been practicing so we are putting pressure on the ball at all times. We are keeping them on their toes at all times and they never know what we are going to do or what we are not going to do. I think that has been a tremendous help to our defense on the perimeter and just getting out there and making them think twice about shooting it."
On intensity of practice getting ready for the SEC:
"We come to practice every day just pumped up knowing that conference time is coming up. If they underestimate us, they do, and if they don't, well we are coming out with energy and heart and are going to play until the last minute of the game.
Senior Courtney Strauthers
On how you were able to establish things inside tonight:
"At practice we have been going harder every day and working on the inside outside game. We are able to trust each other and are getting the guards to trust us more. That has helped us to finish."
