
Alabama Women's Basketball Hosts Presbyterian College in Monday Matinee

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The women's basketball returns to Coleman Coliseum on Monday to take on the Presbyterian College Blue Hose for the Crimson Tide's third annual 5th Grade Fastbreak game at 11:30 a.m. (CST). Alabama enters the contest with a 6-5 record, including a perfect 3-0 mark at home, while Presbyterian College stands at 1-9 on the season.
"We are looking forward to our game on Monday as the fifth graders make for an exciting atmosphere," said head coach Wendell Hudson. "We are also looking forward to playing back at home for this one game before we break for the holidays."
The Tide recently spent four days in Florida where it went 1-1 against UCF and Florida A&M. Alabama was able to escape from the Knights by a score of 64-62 playing solid defense on UCF's final drive. The Tide had trouble scoring in Wednesday's matchup with the Rattlers and suffered a 61-52 defeat.
Alabama is led on offense by juniors Varisia Raffington and Tierney Jenkins, who average 11.8 and 11.7 points per game, respectively. Jenkins is also the Tide's leader in rebounds, and ranks first in the Southeastern Conference and seventh nationally, with 11.3 boards per contest. Junior LaToya King continues to top Alabama in assists with 3.8 dishes an outing.
Presbyterian College opened the 2009 season at 0-9 before picking up its first win last time out with a 61-47 victory over South Carolina State. Monday's game will be the seventh of the season for the Blue Hose on the road and ninth overall away from home.
Presbyterian College's leader in points per game is freshman Mariah Pietrowski with 13.0 points per game. She is also shooting 66.2 percent from the floor and is second on the team in rebounds with 4.0 boards per contest. Fellow freshman Dria David is the Blue Hose leader in rebounds, assists and steals thus far with 4.8 boards per game, 2.8 handouts per contest and 2.7 thefts an outing.
Admission for the women's basketball game is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 18 and under. Season tickets are currently on sale for $40 for the general public and $25 for University of Alabama faculty and staff.
