TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - With a little over two weeks left in the season, the No. 6 Alabama men's cross country is preparing for the NCAA South Region Championships under the direction of cross country coach Joe Walker.
"We had a fairly solid week although we've had a few setbacks with sickness and minor aches and pains," Walker recalled. "We were able to get three quality days in with certain individuals although we had to allow some others to fight off their sickness throughout the week."
Last week, the squad was able to get in a fartlek workout early in the week. The men came back on Thursday for a hilly tempo run followed by repeats on the cross country course on Saturday.
"We wanted to work that week fairly hard and then be able to back off a bit this week leading into the regional competition," Walker said. "We now have to get mentally prepared for the regional 10k followed 8 days later by the NCAA Championships."
The Crimson Tide hosts the NCAA South Region Championships for the first time since 2004 on Saturday, Nov. 14. The meet will be at the Harry Pritchett Running Park and is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
