TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team capped off its weekend with a 0-0 draw against Arkansas in wet and cold conditions Sunday afternoon at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. After the tie the Crimson Tide move to 5-4-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in Southeastern Conference play.
"We are disappointed because you always want to win your home games," Alabama head coach Todd Bramble said. "Getting a point was good but we wanted to take three points out of this game. I thought at times we were clearly the better team and in the second half we had all the momentum and had them on the ropes but we were just unable to deliver that knockout punch."
Alabama held the possession advantage for most of the four periods and were constantly causing problems for Arkansas in their defensive third. Both teams finished the match with 16 shots but the Tide put the pressure on and banged out 10 of those in the second frame.
Alabama junior forward Brooke Rogers once again paced the Tide in shots. Rogers fired off three and put one on frame. Allie Chandler led Arkansas and all players with eight shots, putting five on goal.
Crimson Tide sophomore goalkeeper Justine Bernier recorded her third shutout of the season and third in her last four matches. The Canadian international tallied 10 saves and kept the nets clean for the entire 110 minutes.
"I thought we played really well today," Bernier said. "We moved the ball and had good combinations. We would have liked to get the three points but at the end of the day you can look at how far this team has come and continue to move in the right direction."
Alabama held the slight edge in corner kicks by posting eight to the seven by Arkansas. The Crimson Tide was tagged with 12 fouls compared to seven of the Razorbacks.
The Tide will once again hit the road with two matches next weekend. Alabama will first play Florida in Gainesville on Friday, Oct. 9 and then head up to South Carolina to play the Gamecocks on Sunday, Oct. 11.
