
Soccer Closes Out Weekend with Sunday Matinee Against Arkansas

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama soccer team (5-4-0, 1-1 SEC) will close out its weekend slate with a Sunday matinee against Arkansas (6-3-2, 0-3 SEC). The two teams will kickoff at 12:30 p.m. at the Alabama Soccer Stadium. The match will be televised on Sport South with Bernie Guenther and Jenn Hildreth calling the action.
Last Time Out: The Alabama soccer team dropped its home opener in Southeastern Conference play to No. 17 ranked LSU by the score of 3-0 Friday night. The Tigers scored 10 minutes in and then added another goal on a deflection and on a penalty kick. Brooke Rogers led Alabama with five shots, putting four on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Justine Bernier saw her scoreless streak end at 248 minutes.
Who to Watch: Junior forward Victoria Frederick continues to lead the Crimson Tide with the most number of goals (4), shots on goal (10), and points (10). Frederick is also a category leader tied for first in assists (2) with Rosaly Petriello , while Brooke Rogers paces the team with 21 shots and has also put 10 on frame.
Scouting Arkansas: The Razorbacks (6-3-2, 0-3 SEC) enter the game off a 2-1 loss to Auburn on Friday night. Allie Chandler leads the Razorbacks in goals (4), shots on goal (12), points (10), and is tied with 5 others in game winning goals (1). Laurel Pastor and Ally Atkins lead the team in assists (4) while Pastor leads the team in shots (28). The Razorbacks finished the 2008 season 11-8-0 overall and 4-7-0 in conference play. The 2009 season marks the first year under new head coach Erin Aubry. The Razorbacks were picked tom finish fifth in the SEC Western Division according to the preseason coaches poll.
Series History: Alabama and Arkansas have played 16 times overall with the Tide leading 10-5-1. Alabama won 3-1 in the last match between the two programs on Oct. 10, 2008 at the Razorback Field. The Tide has hosted the Razorbacks eight times at the Alabama Soccer Stadium and leads 6-2 at home.
Corner Effect: The Alabama soccer team may have been out-shot by its opponents thus far this season but another indication of offensive prowess lies in the corner kick margin. Alabama has earned 44 corner kicks this season while the opposition has only mustered 28.
Alabama on TV: The contest against Arkansas marks the first time this season that the Crimson Tide will play in front of the cameras. Alabama will then play on the Sun Network against Florida and will host one more TV contest against Tennessee on Comcast Sports South on Oct. 25.
Next Time Out: Alabama will play on the road Friday, Oct. 9 against the Florida Gators. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium. The Crimson Tide will then head to South Carolina to face the Gamecocks on Sunday, Oct. 11.
