WILMINGTON, N.C. - Junior Camilla Lennarth fired a 68 (-4) and is tied for the lead after one round at the Landfall Tradition. No. 11 Alabama sits in 5th place, 10 strokes behind the leader Southern California, after shooting a 298 (+10) on the Country Club of Landfall's par-72 Course.
"Camilla really played well today," Alabama head coach Mic Potter said. "She shot an impressive 68 on a very difficult golf course. Now she needs a little help tomorrow and we can be right in the mix as a team. We need to put together 36 holes of good golf."
Lennarth was the only player in the loaded field that includes eight of the top 10 teams in the nation to play a bogey-free first round. The Stockholm, Sweden native recorded four birdies with three coming in a four-hole stretch on the back nine, and is tied with Arizona State's Carlota Ciganda for first place.
Freshman Jennifer Kirby posted a 76 (+4) and finished day one tied for 44th place. Kirby sank two birdies on her round, both on par 4s. Sophomore Brooke Pancake and senior Rhea Nair each shot 77 (+5) and are tied for 50th place entering the second round.Junior Courtney Harter carded an 80 (+8) to end the day tied for 68th.
