TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - NCAA Champion gymnast Morgan Dennis is in the hunt for another crown this week after being elected to the University of Alabama Homecoming Court Tuesday night on the strength of a write-in campaign spearheaded by her teammates. The senior from Westampton, N.J. is one of five women on the court.
Dennis, a six-time All-American and five-time Southeastern Conference Champion, is the third Crimson Tide gymnasts to earn a place on the UA Homecoming Court, joining Meredith Willard (1996) and Andreé Pickens (2001).
"It's a great honor and I can't thank my teammates enough for all they did in getting me elected to the court," Dennis said. "When I'm up there at the pep rally on Friday and on the field Saturday, I'll be representing not just myself, but our entire team and really the athletics department as a whole."
Dennis and the rest of the court will be recognized during the Homecoming Pep Rally Friday night on the University Quad, when the Homecoming Queen will be announced. The queen and her court will then be honored at halftime of the UA-South Carolina football game. It will be Dennis' second trip to mid-field at Bryant-Denny Stadium this season. She and her 2009 teammates received their SEC Championship rings during halftime of the Alabama-Arkansas football game.
