TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 3 Alabama men's cross country team is now through eight weeks of their 2009 campaign under cross country Joe Walker. The squad did not compete this past weekend.
The Crimson Tide is gearing up this week for what is conceivably the biggest regular season meet of the year. The men will travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-National meet - the site of the 2009 NCAA Championships.
"This past week went well," Walker recalled. "We ended up going with a longer tempo workout on Tuesday in the forest."
The squad was able to get in a solid speed workout in during the off weekend as well at the Harry Pritchett Running Park.
"We followed up with a nice session of mile repeats on Thursday on our home course," Walker said. "The main group was able to get 6 in averaging under 4:40 per mile. We are now going with a flat repeat effort early this week and then try to get fresh for weekend effort in Indiana."
Alabama will face up to 20 ranked teams on Oct. 17 at the Pre-National meet hosted by Indiana State University.
