
Ashley Priess Named SEC Freshman Gymnast of the Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama's Ashley Priess was named the inaugural Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week the SEC office announced today.
"Ashley got her freshman season off to a great start Friday and is very deserving of this award," Alabama head coach Sarah Patterson said. "The exciting thing for us and our fans is that she is only going to get better."
In her first meet for the Crimson Tide, Priess anchored the UA's uneven bars and balance beam lineups and was next to last on the floor exercise. The Wheaton, Ill. native scored a 9.875 from the anchor spot of the Tide's last event, the balance beam, tying teammate Brittany Magee for first place on the event and securing Alabama's narrow victory over Auburn.
Priess and her teammates return to action Friday, Jan. 16 against Kentucky in the Tide's home opener. The meet starts at 7:30 p.m. in Coleman Coliseum. Tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) or online at www.rolltide.com.
