Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Alabama head women's cross country coach Randy Hasenbank led the Crimson Tide through the third week of practice and the first meet of the year. The squad competed at the Belmont/Vanderbilt Opener in Nashville, Tenn. last Friday.
"We didn't run a full squad this past weekend," Hasenbank said. "I left our top two runners, Betty Rotich and Haley Moody, at home so they'll make a big difference when they're in the lineup. I was really pleased with the way the freshman competed."
Alabama will take a week off from competition this week to concentrate on training. The Tide will continue working on the aerobic workouts and will not concentrate on speed just yet.
"We're still working on volume and lots of hills," Hasenbank said. "We want to keep moving forward and be very consistent with our training, not spectacular, but consistent. I think that's a big key to getting better as a distance runner."
The Crimson Tide will take a week off before hosting the 20th Annual Crimson Classic on Sept.20 at the Harry Pritchett Course. The runners will toe the line at 9:15 a.m.
