Tuscaloosa, Ala. - Alabama men's cross country coach Joe Walker led the Crimson Tide through the third week of practice and the first meet of the year. The squad competed at the UTC Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn. last Friday.
"It's been a great week for us," Walker said. "We're getting everybody healthy, everybody that has been in the training room is starting to get out of there. I think everyone is getting adjusted to the work."
Alabama will take a week off from competition this week to concentrate on training. The Tide will continue doing longer aerobic workouts. Later in the week, the team will do a tempo run and some of the younger athletes will do mile repeats.
"Everything is pointing towards us being ready for October and November when we compete the 8k and 10k distances on hills," Walker said. "The fastest thing we've been exposed to is the 5k race this past weekend."
The Crimson Tide will take a week off before hosting the 20th Annual Crimson Classic on Sept.20 at the Harry Pritchett Course. The runners will toe the line at 8:30 a.m.
