TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama men's cross country team will begin their 2008 campaign later today at the 22nd Annual UTC Powerade Invitational at the Moccasin Bend Race Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Crimson Tide is set to toe the line at 5:30 p.m.
The Tide will rest its top five runners this weekend in order to give the newcomers an opportunity to compete.
"We're excited to get started on what we think will be a big fall," Coach Joe Walker said. "This weekend, I am looking forward to giving an opportunity to a lot of freshman and see how they respond to the collegiate atmosphere and this level of competition."
This is the third consecutive year Alabama has opened their season at the UTC Invitational. The squad finished third at last year's meet behind cross-state rival Auburn and Jacksonville State but still finished a school best sixth at the NCAA Championships.
The Crimson Tide will take a week off before hosting the 20th Annual Crimson Classic on Sept. 20 at the Harry Pritchett Course.
