WACO, Texas - Michael Jung played two solid matches Sunday to Capture the singles B flight finals at the HEB Baylor Intercollegiate Invitational. In the semifinal round, Jung met up with Louisiana Lafayette's Arlen Domoney before facing Jim Brouleau of New Mexico State in the finals.
"Michael had an outstanding tournament in winning six singles matches in three days," said head coach Billy Pate. "The team has been working hard on their physical toughness with conditioning sessions, and I think it showed as Michael had to fight through some fatigue and challenging opposition."
Jung fought hard in his semifinal matchup with Domoney winning with scores of 7-6(3), 7-6(3). In the finals, he pulled ahead early taking the first set 6-2, but slipped in the second to Brouleau 2-6. Jung posted a 6-4 third set en route to staking his claim as the tournament champion. Alabama teammate Houssam Yassine also competed in the singles B flight semifinals dropping a three-setter to Brouleau 1-6, 6-2, 6-3.
"Houssam didn't quite find his rhythm today, but he and John (Lewis) had a solid weekend while getting a number of good matches under their belt," added Pate.
Next up, members of the Alabama men's tennis team will compete at the ITA All-American Championship beginning Oct. 6 in Tulsa, Okla.
