TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 7 Alabama women's golf team travels to Franklin, Tenn. to take aim at the Legends Golf Course, site of the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship hosted by Vanderbilt Sept. 26-28. The Tide is coming off two top five finishes in its first two events of the fall season, including a second place finish at the Cougar Classic in the team's most recent outing.
The Tide made a strong push for the team title at the Cougar Classic firing a 282 (-6) in the final round, the lowest round of any team on day three, but came up a few strokes short of eventual champion Georgia. UA shot 863 (-1) in the tournament, only the second time in team history that the Tide has finished under par for a 54-hole tournament.
Two UA golfers claimed spots in the top 10 at the Cougar Classic. Camilla Lennarth earned a seventh place finish with a final score of 212 (-4). The Stockholm, Sweden native used 12 birdies over the final 36 holes to leap into the top 10. Lennarth has finished in the top 12 in each of the first two tournaments and is currently the 22nd ranked individual in the country according to the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.
All-America honorable mention selection Kathleen Ekey grabbed her first top 10 finish of the year at the Cougar Classic, wrapping up the tournament in a tie for ninth at 214 (-2). Ekey played consistently well, shooting all three rounds at par or better. Ekey led the team with six top 10 finishes last season.
Sophomore Courtney Harter also kicked in a strong contribution to the Tide's comeback effort, posting a 67 (-5) on day three, good for the low round of the tournament for Alabama. Harter finished at 217 (+1) in a tie for 14th place.
The Tide will face off against another competitive field at the Mason Rudolph Championship where eight of the 17 teams are ranked in the top 25. UA's competition is headlined by top ranked Arizona State and No. 4 USC. Oklahoma State, Auburn, Duke and UCLA all come in ranked in the top 16 and will look to contend for the title as well.
Six SEC schools are scheduled to compete in the tournament with the Tide coming in as the highest ranked of the bunch. Auburn comes in at No. 13, Arkansas and Florida are in the top 50, and Tennessee and Vanderbilt enter just outside the top 50.
Live scoring for the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com beginning Sept. 26. Alabama will have nearly a month off after the Mason Rudolph before resuming play at the Derby Invitational hosted by Auburn on Oct. 24.
