TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Rolltide.com and the Alabama women's cross country team have started a new weekly segment called Seven Questions. Select players and coaches will check in weekly on Rolltide.com and answer questions pertaining to things on and off the field. The fourth edition features Sophomore Megan Williams.
Rolltide.com: When and why did you start running?
Megan Williams: I started running when I was 8 years old. I used to see my dad going for runs all the time and I wanted to be like him so I asked if I could go with him one day, and he said sure! I did my first road race that same year and won my age group. I was hooked from that point on!
Rolltide.com: Why did you choose to come to The University of Alabama?
Williams: I was actually recruited academically for the honors program. When I came for my visit I fell in love with the campus and the people. I really felt like this was where I was supposed to be.
Rolltide.com: What are your personal goals and what are the team goals for this year and career?
Williams: My goal this year is to be in the 18-minute range for my 5k and in the 23-minute range for my 6k. Our team is really young, but so talented! I'm excited to see what we can do this year. I think if we can get all of our girls healthy we can really improve our SEC and regional standings from last year.
Rolltide.com: Do you have a pre-race ritual?
Williams: I always pray and break down a Roll Tide!
Rolltide.com: What's your favorite race and why?
Williams: I love the race in Chicago. It is so beautiful and not quite as hot as it is in Alabama!
Rolltide.com: Other than running, what Olympic sport would you want to compete in and why?
Williams: I do triathlons during the summer, so that would definitely be a cool thing to compete in.
Rolltide.com: You have improved your 4k and 5k times by around 40 seconds in each race to start the season. What do you attribute that to?
Williams: I worked my butt off this summer! I literally doubled my mileage from last summer and I think that has helped me a lot. I also think it helps to know what to expect and what is expected of me in return.
