TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama men's cross country coach Joe Walker led the Crimson Tide through their fifth week of practice and the 20th Annual Crimson Classic. The squad will work on hills and get into some faster workouts this week.
The Crimson Tide won their home meet with a perfect score of 15 points. They were able to sweep the top five spots with Tyson David leading the way finishing the 8,000 meter course in 24:22.63.
He was followed by Augustus Maiyo in second (24:24.02), Emmanuel Bor in third (24:34.21), Abraham Kutingala in fourth (24:43.56), and Andrew Kirwa rounding out the top five (25:00.87).
"We enjoyed running at home," Walker said. "It's great to get a good competition in where you don't have to travel."
The team was able to get a good long run in the following day at Talladega National Forest. This week, they have a good hill session coming up and repeats on the grass while finishing up the week with another long run.
"We will ease into a little bit lighter week going into Oregon," Walker said. "That will be a huge test for us going across the country and racing No. 1 Oregon on their home course."
The Crimson Tide will take a week off before heading to Eugene, Ore. on Oct. 4 to compete at the Dellinger Invite. The race will be held at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ore. at 10:30 a.m. (PST).
