
Women's Golf Opens Cougar Classic in Seventh Place

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Alabama women's golf team opened the first round of the Cougar Classic with a 293 (+5) Sunday at Yeamans Hall to sit in seventh place. The Crimson Tide is just five strokes off the lead as Virginia and Georgia lead the field after turning in identical scores of even-par-288.
Alabama senior honorable mention All-American Kathleen Ekey set the tone for the Crimson Tide with a 71 (-1). Ekey is tied for eighth overall after shooting par on the back nine and sinking three birdies on the front.
Alabama sophomore Camilla Lennarth continued her strong play to open the 2008 campaign with a 73 (+1). Lennarth sank three birdies on the front nine to start tied for 16th place overall. Freshman Brooke Pancake closely followed with a 74 (+2) to start the tournament tied for 24th overall. Pancake tallied her lone birdie on the par-4-17th.
Sophomore Courtney Harter is currently tied for 39th overall with a first round score of 75 (+3). Harter recorded two birdies on the day, including her first to open play on the par-4-1st. Junior Helena Blomberg rounded out the Crimson Tide with a 76 (+4). Blomberg recorded her lone birdie on the par-5-15th and currently rests tied for 54th overall.
Alabama will be paired with LSU and Notre Dame in the first tee-off group of the second round. Blomberg will start things off for the Crimson Tide at 7:40 a.m. at hole number one.
