TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama head women's cross country coach Randy Hasenbank led the Crimson Tide through the second week of practice and preparations for the upcoming season. The squad is continuing to work out twice a day but limiting the two a days to only a couple times a week.
"I think it's exciting to see such a young and energetic group," Hasenbank said. "All the athletes had a good summer and all seem to be very fit heading into competition season. I'm interested to see the young squad compete and get a grasp of where we're at."
Alabama will begin competition this week without having done many speed workouts. The team will compete against the runner-up from last year's SEC Championships, The University of Tennessee, this week.
"We are still working on our base preparation and won't get to any specific preparations yet this week. The race at Belmont will serve as our hard work out for the week," Hasenbank said. "There are a lot of question marks about this team because there are so many new faces. Haley probably won't be at full strength yet either."
The Crimson Tide will open the 2008 season on Sept. 5 at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tennessee. The runners will toe the line at 5:30 PM EST at Percy Warner Park at the Vaughn's Creek Course.
