TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama men's cross country coach Joe Walker led the Crimson Tide through the second week of practice including the conclusion of two a days. The squad had one tempo run to cap off the week and prepare for the first meet of the season.
"We're still battling some IT band and knee issues and are just trying to get through that so we can be ready to get started," Walker said. "We are still doing a lot of aerobic stuff so we haven't done anything overly fast yet other than getting in a good tempo run in last week."
Alabama will begin competition this week along with the most of the country. After two weeks of training on campus, the Tide is ready to compete against other teams, including rival Auburn University who they will compete against this week.
"I feel good about where our fitness levels are at. Augustus Maiyo and Zac Edwards really stood out and had a solid tempo run last week," Walker recalled. "We are going to give an opportunity to a lot of the new guys to see where they are at and distinguish who is going to be our seven, eight, and nine guys through September."
The Crimson Tide will open the 2008 season on Sept. 5 at the UTC Powerade Invitational in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The runners will toe the line at 6:30 PM EST at the Moccasin Bend Course.
