TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama women's cross country team arrived on campus last week to begin practice. The squad is having one practice a day in the mornings out at Talladega National Forest and other places like Sokol Park.
"We have a young group this year, but I have been really pleased with everybody's fitness levels, " coach Randy Hasenbank said. "The freshman and newcomers have obviously worked hard in the summer and several will contribute this fall."
Practice officially began on Friday morning after the team arrived on Thursday. Hasenbank is looking to his top three runners Haley Moody, Betty Rotich, and Farrah Stewart to provide the leadership for this year's team.
Rotich was an All-SEC performer in the 5,000 meter and 10,000m races during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons, respectively. She also was named All-Mideast Region for her performance in the 5,000m last year.
Moody garnered All-SEC and All-South Region during her freshman campaign last season.
The squad will continue training in the morning with a 6:00 AM practice time scheduled on Thursday at the forest. The Crimson Tide will begin competing on Friday, Sept. 5 at the Belmont Opener in Nashville, Tennessee.
