TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Alabama women's golfers Kathleen Ekey (Wadsworth, Ohio) and Camilla Lennarth (Stockholm, Sweden) led the Crimson Tide during postseason play and were rewarded for their efforts. Ekey was named an honorable mention All-American while Lennarth was an All-Midwest Regional selection.
"I am proud and excited for both Kathleen and Camilla," head coach Mic Potter said. "Camilla's performance at the regional carried our team through to nationals. Kathleen was the anchor of our team all year long. Our future looks bright with Kathleen and Camilla returning to lead our team next year."
Ekey earns the honor after finishing in a tie for 20th place at the NCAA Championship this past week in Albuquerque, N.M. Ekey finished the tournament with a 72 hole score of 296 (+8), the top finish off all the Crimson Tide.
Camilla Lennarth finished with the fifth best scoring average in school history. |
After firing a final round of 72, Ekey assured herself the best single season scoring average in the history of the program. The Wadsworth, Ohio native finished the year with a scoring average of 73.30, bettering the 73.44 average of All-American Jenny Suh. Ekey also recorded the best single round in the history of the program with a 65 at the Crimson Tide Classic.
Just a freshman, Lennarth had no problems making the adjustment not just to the college golf scene but to a foreign country as well. The Stockholm, Sweden native finished tied for 10th at the NCAA Midwest Regional to earn All-Region honors. Lennarth finished the tournament with a 54-hole score of 218 (+2), her third best tournament score on the season.
The newcomer finished the season with a 74.54 scoring average, the fifth best mark in program history. In just her second start in her career at Alabama, Lennarth finished second overall at the Wildcat Fall Invitational with a 214 (-2). Lennarth shot a 207 on the strength of three-straight sub par rounds to help Alabama earn a convincing win at the Crimson Tide Classic.
The Crimson Tide just came off its third straight appearance at the NCAA Championship. The 12th place finish was the second best in school history. In each season coach Potter has been at the helm, the Crimson Tide has reached the NCAA Championship.
