
Tide Softball Hammers Birmingham Southern 9-1

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Top-ranked Alabama scored early and often in a 9-1 win over Birmingham Southern in the opening game of a day-night doubleheader at the Alabama Softball Complex on Wednesday.
The Crimson Tide improved to 45-3 on the season, extending their consecutive wins streak to 24 games. The Panthers fall to 30-23 on the year.
Chrissy Owens (13-0) pitched a complete game with five strikeouts in the circle. The Panthers managed the first run off the Tide pitching staff in 38 innings in the top of the fifth as the only hit Owens allowed scored on a two-out throwing error by Alex Blewitt at third base.
Whitney Larsen started in center field and went 3 for 4 at the top of the lineup with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Dani Woods, Charlotte Morgan and Katie Johnson chipped in with two hits each.
Alabama plays Samford starting at 6:30 p.m. in the nightcap of the doubleheader.
