TUSCALOOSA ?? The University of Alabama men’s golf team’s fifth tournament championship of the season won on Sunday helped slide the Crimson Tide into the No. 1 ranking in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings on Monday. Alabama had previously been ranked second in that poll.
Alabama senior Michael Thompson, who is the No. 7 ranked amateur in the world in the Golfweek/Sagarin amateur rankings, is ranked No. 2 in the college individual rankings. Alabama junior Matthew Swan ranks No. 15 and senior Mark Harrell ranks No. 43 in the Golfweek/Sagarin collegiate rankings.
That gives Jay Seawell’s Alabama team the top spot in both major polls as Alabama is the No. 1 ranked team in the Golf World/Nike Coaches’ poll as well.
